Every year you want to show your love or appreciation for a special someone during the holidays by giving them something special and you want to pull your hair out of your head trying to come up with something. The person who has everything usually gets a lot of strange things that they will never use because people are just trying to come up with “something” Yes, there are trinkets that are fun and appreciated by all, but how many trinkets does one person need?

Some tell me that I am that person. I have “things” that have been given to me by people and I am not sure what to do with them or I already have two of whatever they have given me. Hear me, I appreciate the effort and thought that goes with the gift, I just don’t “need” anything. I am not saying it to brag by any means. I am by no means the richest person person when it comes to money, I am rich in friends, family and love.  If you know me I would give you the shirt off my back it is just that life has been very good to me. I work hard, have had good luck and keep things on the straight and narrow. I count my blessings everyday.

So, if you have someone in your life that is blessed and has everything too I will give you the best gift idea for that person. Whatever money you would spend on that person for a gift, make a donation to a charity instead. No matter how small the amount is it will mean more than you know to the person who has everything and help change a complete stranger’s life. For me, I don’t care about another sweater, watch or jewelry. I have everything I need or want and if I don’t have it, I can get it for myself. Chances are the person you are thinking of does the same thing.

Think of the person and try to figure out what charity might be meaningful to your loved one. Maybe it is an animal charity, community organizations, homeless organization or something to help children. There are a million to choose from. For me, it is about the children. In the last couple of years I have been involved with an organization called Mothers Fighting for Others, which helps orphan children in Kenya Africa. I have asked my family members to donate to the charity instead of buying me anything. That means more to me than any “thing” means to me.

Believe me, it will mean more to your loved one, who has everything, to spend time and be with you during the holidays and that you thought enough of them to make a difference to someone else during the holidays. After all, isn’t that what giving is all about?

I see London, I see France, I see some one’s underpants.

In our country we don’t really think much of underwear. Don’t get me wrong, it is a big business from Victoria’s Secret to Hanes to designer digs, billions of dollars on our undergarments.  But we don’t really give it much thought other than the occasional wedgie we might get.

When you think about your underwear after reading this, I want you think about the difference between sickness and health – maybe living or dying?  Bet you didn’t think I was going there with this story! 

Did you know that children across the world, who live in poverty, may or may not have any underwear?  Do you know that being able to wear underwear can make the difference between being healthy and sick?  That just blows my mind. Something that we don’t give two thoughts about can make a life or death difference to a child!  Even though times may be trying for many Americans, underwear is not a health crisis.

I found an amazing group of women that bring underwear to children in Africa in order to help with this issue. The group is called Mothers Fighting For Others.   MFFO works to help children in Africa.   I have been so inspired by these women, I couldn’t help but get involved.
