Fall Fun at Butler’s Orchard
September 5th, 2008 categories: Movin Consumers, Movin Entertainment
Back when I was a kid I didn’t really like Fall. I guess it was the end of the Summer vacation and the start of school . Now, it is my favorite time of the year. The weather is cooler, holidays are on the way and the turning of the leaves make this time of the year something I look forward to.
During the Fall, one of the best things you can do is visit Butler’s Orchard in Germantown Maryland. Butler’s Orchard has been a working farm for 50 years. It is also a country store and entertainment for any and everyone. There are several different fruits and vegetables that you can pick yourself. You should check the schedule to see when your favorites are in season.
I talked to Bob, from Butler’s Orchard, yesterday when I was picking up some fresh fruit and he told me he grills fresh vegetables the second weekend every month during the Summer season. Bob said that they play music, dance, sample his veggies and have a good old time. If that sounds like fun to you, September 13th and 14th will be the last weekend for Bob’s Grilling for the season.
Even if you miss Bob’s fun, you won’t want to miss the Annual Pumpkin Harvest. There are Hay rides where you go out into the pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkins. There will be a pumpkin party every weekend from September 27th to the End of October.
There is something for each season. They have a Christmas Tree Farm. You can go and pick out your own Christmas Tree and take it home. The Thursday before Easter, there is a big Easter egg hunt and hay ride. Make sure you bring your Easter basket. You can even have Birthday parties at Butler’s Orchard..
If you have never been, you have to check out Butler’s Orchard. Fall is the perfect season to start having fun at Butler‘s Orchard. Calendar of Events Here.
Now, Fall is one of my favorite seasons. Butler’s Orchard is a Montgomery County Gem not to be missed.

Suburban Maryland Home Show 2008, Germantown MD
August 28th, 2008 categories: Movin Consumers, Movin Information
If you are anything like me and my husband, home improvement is a never ending process. Don’t get me wrong, it is a labor of love but it is definitely labor. One of the previous owners had done several improvements ten years ago, but we have since improved upon their improvements. There are so many choices, it can be daunting. Where do you start? What is your budget? That is why the Home Show is a great place to start. Everyone you want to talk to all in one place!
We look at it as eating an elephant, one bite at a time and soon you will make progress. We divided the house into sections as far as cost, if it was something we could do ourselves, and the amount of inconvenience. The fun part is you get to make your home your very own.
A helpful way to determine these factors would be a visit to the Suburban Maryland Fall Home Show. The show will be held at the Discovery Soccer Complex in Germantown, Maryland September 12,13, & 14. There is an admission is $9.00, kids under 16 are free.
At the show you will find all kinds of vendors that can give you advice on projects you might be contemplating. Anything from gutters to granite will be at the show. There will be vendors with goods to sell that you can purchase at the show.
Make a day of it, there will be a concession stand when you need to take a break from shopping.

You Go Girl! Single Women Move Forward in Purchasing Real Estate
August 6th, 2008 categories: Movin Consumers, Movin Entertainment, Movin Information, Movin Lifestyle, Movin Real Estate News
You know the saying. You go Girl. It is kind of like the female version of that jump in the air high five thingy? Whatever you guys call it?!! It is something that we say to women when they show us their strengths and that they have overcome or accomplished something major in their lives. We all know that we are stronger than we realize, just sometimes we need a little nudge. So this story will be about women and their strengths when it comes to home ownership.
I work with many first time homebuyers. I love them, they are eager to learn the process from start to finish and they are so proud at the sucess of their first home. It is so cool when that happens. Not to pick on the guys, but I think some women are not sure about this subject.
For single women though, I think some of you don’t think you can’t do it. I think many women still think they need to wait for their Knight in Shinning Armour to show up and that is when these types of life decisions start to take place. Not so I say. As a former single female first time home buyer, I say go for it. You can do it.
Did you know, as a single home buyer you make up about 18% of the home sales across the country?
Here’s how strong you are;
Statistics on women and home ownership

2000 census delivers insights on homeownership, (Community Banker, Mar. 2002).
Many of us are waiting to marry or cohabit later in life, but there is no need to put your life on hold in regard to making a home buying decision. I remember about 5 years ago I had a buyer, a Single woman around 30 who said to me “I don’t know why I put this on hold? I think I have been waiting to be rescued and now I have missed out on buying a home at a lower price waiting for prince charming.” That just smacked me right across the head as an “Ah ha moment”. What are we thinking? We can do it.
Right now, my buyer pool has 3 single, never been married woman, on the hunt for a new home in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area. I am so proud of them and their strength. You should find yourself a REALTOR(R) and a lender that you know and trust to guide you through the transaction. It is not as difficult as you may think. It will be one of the magic moments in your life, owning your first home.
You Go girl, you are stronger than you think!!

Rudy and the Kindness of Strangers
May 21st, 2008 categories: Movin Lifestyle, Movin Pets
Everyday is an adventure no matter what you do or where you live. It doesn’t have to be newsworthy, little things that happen change people’s attitudes.
This morning, after my husband left for work, the phone rang and it was him. He says to me, “Guess what I got in the back of the car?” Me, “I don’t know, what?” He says, “a soaking wet – I am waiting for racoon, deer, fox, you name it some wild animal- Golden Retriever.”
He went on to tell me that he found her wandering in the middle of Rt 118 in Germantown Soaking wet. He stopped his car in the middle of the road with flashers and coaxed her into his car with little trouble. He said she hopped right in. She didn’t have any tags on her, so he turned around and brought her home so we could figure out who she belonged to.
Once she got to our house, I don’t think she was so sure of where she was it took a few minutes to get her out of the car. Finally she came out and we took her inside and dried her off. She was soaked to the bone. I figured she must have been out all day yesterday and last night. After we got her a bit dryer, I checked her collar for information and found her name, Rudy, and phone number sewn onto the collar. We called her owner and they headed right over to get her.
We fed her and gave her a treat. She was very happy about that. She was a bit timid about where she was, our dog was checking her out too. They were fine together and both sat for me as I gave them their treat.
When her owner came to get her, he was most thankful and told us that they had contractors at their house doing work and they left the gate open and the dogs ran out of the yard. They still had two other dogs they were looking for. I sure hope they find them or the dogs find their way home.
It struck me funny when the owner said he was so thankful for our kindness and happy to get his dog back? I guess I think most folks would reach out and help a dog, child, cat that was in obvious trouble? But I guess that is not the case. My husband said that people were just swerving around the dog and honking at it? I just don’t get that? Maybe it is because I am a dog owner I am more sensitive to such things? You see, for you folks that are not pet owners, to us it is the same thing as if your child was out wandering down the middle of Rt 118 soaking wet. You would certainly hope someone would stop to help. I am not scolding anyone, just explaining how most pet owners feel about their pets.
So next time, you see a dog wandering down the road and it is safe for you to approach, try getting the information off of the collar and call the owner. The owner will probably come right away to get the pet.
You will make their day and in turn you will make yourself feel really good for “being the kindness of a stranger.”

South Germantown Soccer and Sports Complex
May 19th, 2008 categories: Movin Entertainment, Movin Lifestyle, Movin Real Estate News, Movin Sports
You will never want for something to do if you live in Montgomery County Maryland. There are several Cultural venues, world renowned restaurants, and sports facilities to keep everyone in the family happy and entertained.
One of the best facilities we have access to is The Germantown Pool and Soccer complex, located on 695 acres located off of Shaeffer Road in Germantown, Maryland.
The pool complex has three indoor pools. Two large pools, one is Olympic size, with dive platforms and one is a lap pool. There is also a smaller kiddie pool located indoors. During the summer months there is an outdoor pool and a splash pool that is open as well.
In the same complex is the Discovery Zone soccer field. This features indoor soccer/volleyball/basketball and lacrosse indoor fields and an outdoor lighted field with stadium seating for 3200. There are 24 other soccer fields there at the complex that are always full on the weekends with soccer games being played by all different leagues and age groups. The complex also has a golf driving range, an Archery range and a pond to launch your remote control model boats. There are hiking trails, softball fields and two miniture golf courses too! Fun for everyone. It is really a great facility.
I think the county thought of just about everyone, and all you have to do is be a resident of Montgomery County Maryland!!
